Quick Facts

~Blackberries are fat free.

~Blackberries are high in anthocyanins, which give them their color. These specific antioxidants help fight off the process of aging by fighting off the diseases associated with old age.

~Blackberries are effective in the treatment of stomach problems, such as nausea.

~Blackberries are very high in Vitamin C and Fiber.

~Blackberries are red and hard when they are immature and turn black and shiny when they ripen.

~Blackberries can be easily confused with raspberries, but raspberries (including black raspberries) have a hollow center.

~You can easily freeze blackberries - just cut the hulls off and pop them into a ziplock bag, removing as much air as possible. The blackberries will keep for many months frozen without air. An alternate way is to "flash freeze" the blackberries by freezing on a cookie sheet for an hour, then placing them into ziplock bags; this helps the blackberries keep their shape. To thaw and clean, rinse the blackberries before use.
